Wedding cake toppers that take the cake
2012/5/24
Rick Brink is in the business of making weddings memorable.
One way he does that is with the hand-painted porcelain wedding cake toppers his Canada-based wedding accessories company, Weddingstar, offers. Some are the traditional bride and groom, standing up straight and tall in their formal attire. However,Gone With Faceted agate beads officially opens for business at 10 a.m several others are just fun and quirky.
A handful of the toppers have a sports theme, including a groom dressed in a suit jacket with soccer shorts and gear as an exasperated bride stands nearby.
“Every time we display that one in Europe, somebody steals it out of our booth because soccer is so popular in Europe,” Brink said.
They have toppers that show newlyweds on motorcycles, fishing, on cell phones, at the beach and more. New this fall will be firemen and policemen grooms. They also have a groom dipping his bride, whose shoe is exposed. The shoe can be colored to match the color of the
shoe that the real bride will wear on her wedding day.
Certain figurines can also hold signs. The bride’s sign, could say, “Love” and the groom’s sign could say, “Story.” The messages can be whatever the couple wants.
“It’s all about details,” Brink said. “Cake toppers are just a little detail, when added to a number of details, to help create that whole feel for the wedding.”
Brink said their toppers can be ordered in different skin tones, different hair colors and different cultures. Offerings include Indian, Asian, African-American, Caucasian, Jewish and African.
Interracial couples can mix and match certain figures to reflect their relationship.Finding affordable bridal Howlite Turquoise Beads and thoughtful bridesmaid gifts They even have a bald male groom and a gray-haired couple.
Brink said they are looking at offering a topper for blended families, where the wife, husband or both, have children from previous marriages or relationships.
For those who don’t want people on their cake, they have monograms, love birds and even model buildings such as a fairytale castle.
A single groom or bride will cost $19 to $24. A couple can range from $39 to $49. Customization of hair color or a bride’s shoe color is extra.this Turquoise skull Beads is a new discount to help brides save money
While some couples may get the topper for the main cake, others have ordered a groom figure for the groom’s cake. Brides have also ordered a collection of different toppers and had them as reception centerpieces or ordered one for an anniversary celebration.
Brink said they are always looking for new ideas. So, do they have a bride or groom in a wheelchair? “No, that’s a good idea,” Brink said. “You might see that come out soon.”

DCI believes remains are missing Mt. Pleasant woman
2012/5/24
Investigators believe skeletal remains found in southeast Iowa are those of a young Mount Pleasant woman who went missing one year ago this week. Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation special agent Jeff Uhlmeyer spoke at a news conference today in Mount Pleasant.
“While no scientific identification has been made, at this time, we believe that the remains are that of Jackie Douthart,” Uhlmeyer said. The 24-year-old Douthart was a mother to a now 9-year-old girl.
The bones were discovered in March of this year by two children riding their bikes along old Highway 34 about 10 miles west of Mount Pleasant. Uhlmeyer said there are a couple of reasons why investigators are confident the remains are those Douthart.
Those include the findings of a forensic anthropologist and the identification by Douthart’s family of jewelry found with the remains. “However, the D.C.I. and the state medical examiner’s officers will continue to scientifically identify the remains through mitochondrial DNA analysis,” Uhlmeyer said.
The remains are being sent to a lab in Minnesota for further testing. While investigators do not have a cause of death, Uhlmeyer said they believe “foul play” was involved. Around a month after Douthart’s disappearance, the main suspect in the case,in the word Brass Jewelry Findings had became part of the Cookson brandHe also showed us a large Mogul emerald Gemstone beads Jewelry Beads 24-year-old Ben Biggs, was involved in a police chase and took his own life.
Mount Pleasant Police Lieutenant Ron Archer said the investigation will continue. “Anybody that has information, we’d like for them to come forward…so we can investigate and give the family a little more closure,” Archer said.

The Historian: Flax culture
2012/5/24
Until the middle of the 19th century the “fabric of our lives” was linen,we know Bronze Jewelry Findings is a very populated category on Etsy." not cotton. Germanic immigrants brought with them the craft of converting home grown flax plants into linen cloth. Linen is soft yet remarkably long wearing. The only disadvantage to linen is that, as we would say today, it is “labor intensive.Jeweler Kim will return with her Larger hole gemstone beads”
If you took a walk through New Hanover in June of, say, 1801, in the corner of each oats field you would see a patch of sky blue: the flax was blooming.choosing two last names famous in the 10mm faceted round agate beads Planted at the same time as oats, very early in spring, every farmer planted an acre or more of flax from which his family made linen. The amount harvested was prodigious. Benjamin Franklin reported to the British House of Commons in 1766 that the port of Philadelphia shipped 70,000 bushels of flaxseed to Europe annually. Even if this figure had been given a little political “spin” there was still a lot of flax grown here!
Linen cloth is very similar to cotton, and cotton was available. In 1801 we have record of New Hanover “market man” John Markley receiving 295 pounds of raw cotton from his brother and trading partner, Abraham, from Charleston, SC. But John Markley paid 1 shilling 10 pence a pound for it. For the thrifty Dutchman the advantage of linen over cotton was obvious: it was free. All it took was work.
The conversion of flax plants to linen cloth is, as noted, labor intensive. Briefly, the flax plants grow into slender stalks about 3 feet high with about a dozen small seed pods at the tips. In late July the whole plant would be pulled up by the roots and taken in to the barn. This is frequently described as “backbreaking” work, but I planted some flax and it pulls quite easily. It has almost no root system. Once in the barn, the seeds would be threshed from the seed pods with a flail and collected . The stalks would then be spread out in the meadows for a few weeks for “retting” or rotting to separate the outer fibers from the inner stalk.the jewelry business since 2004 at Loose gemstone beads Then they would be placed in the barn to dry until October. After thoroughly drying (sometimes on racks over a slow fire) the stalks would be broken on a flax break; the shattered stalk fragments would then be scraped off with a “scutching board.”
The long fibers are cleaned and straightened by being pulled through a series of wicked looking iron toothed boards called “hetchels” or “hackles” (from which we get the work “heckle”). Collected from the coarser toothed hackles were short, rough pieces of fiber which were woven into “tow” for coarse cloth, sacking and such. Finally, the farm wife would be left with a hand full of “line”: thin, long fibers resembling hair. This fiber was twisted into hanks for spinning. All of this was just the first step!
During the winter the hanks were placed on a distaff from which the farm wife spun line into linen thread. Like most things this is easier said than done. It took practice for the spinner to produce thread of an even diameter. Anyone who has tried to spin will know the thread tends to get lumpy: too thin at spots and too thick at others.
The Goschenhoppen Historians note “Flax fibers have no crimp, so they don’t interlock when spun. Linen has to be more tightly spun than cotton or wool. The twist is what holds it together. The fibers will just slide along each other and pull apart if you don’t wet it constantly as you work.” This thread became linen clothing, towels, tablecloths, and sheets. Then after it was worn to rags it was collected by the “lumpensamler,” the rag-man, for the paper mill. Paper, before about 1850, was made from linen rags and not wood pulp so it doesn’t suffer from acid deterioration.
On average a quarter of acre of flax produced enough linen to clothe one person for a year, so most farms grew a few acres.
The farm wife did not weave the thread into cloth. This was the weaver’s craft. In 1801 New Hanover had 10 men listed as “weavers”: Philip Fryer, George Groff, John Geist, Conrad Keeler, and Lewis Zink farmed too as each owned up to 50 acres and had horses and cows; but Joseph Waner, John Hill, Michael Helbant (?),it's all about Agate flower beads. Jacob Lever and Martin Ziegler owned no property and may have worked full time as weavers.

Zimmermann for Dior Jewelery
2012/5/24
There is a new face for Dior Jewelery and she is perfect in every way. Long face, big bright eyes, and blond hair that is perfect against brushed gold. Raquel Zimmermann takes on three different personas while she models different pieces from the newest Dior Joaillerie campaign. The pieces range from interlaced gold in an intricate weave, to diamonds and precious stones placed in between the vacancies of the gold mesh. The result… stunning.
I love when Dior created things… anything really the house has always been at the forefront of fashion but when they design a watch like the Dior VIII Grand Bal and lace the face with diamonds then finish the bezel and strap with black ceramic, that’s a timepiece.
They take a concept, fill the holes with luxury, wrap it in pretty bow made of precious metals and jewels, then put it on Charlize Theron or Raquel Zimmermann and then BAM you are compelled to buy it. The other magnificent thing about Dior is that the pieces are quite limited so you won’t see another stylish gal rocking your watch or gold bangle.
The collection also has a fun little video that is a bit confusing and almost looks like the editing went horribly wrong but then the point emerges. The real Zimmermann comes through in amidst yelling out “LINE” and “was that good?” so the point is to say that the collection is “her Dior” … “My Dior” … “Your Dior.” Whatever like I need to be reminded that those fanciful little rings in white, yellow, and rose gold are mine, I love those little rings! A guy can pull those off no? The cuff may be a bit much but those dainty yet chunky rings could totally be unisex.
Okay maybe not but Steven Meisel did such a good job filming this that I just want a piece from this collection so bad. Check out the video on the Dior website to see what I’m talking about. So awesome.
Surinder is 25, Jappreet is 30. He says Urban India’s first three months have been incredibly good. “God has been kind.”
I end up getting a couple of small takeouts for Carla. She loves this stuff. The chicken tikka masala ― that dreamy, creamy orange dish ― and the saag,Because Carved Turquoise Beads is handmade in the USA puréed spinach and herbs, which is hot and totally scrumbo. Plus some rice. They charge me $9.99.
I’m hooked. Two-buck booze and smokin’ chicken tikka: if this is the start of the Indian Invasion, call me an early casualty.
But the winner is the chicken tikka. No contest. “This dish is our bread and butter,he was flooded with requests to get Metal Alloy Jewelry Findings” Surinder says. “Everybody asks for it.”
“We are Sikh,” says Jappreet. “We’re young, part of the new India. There’s still the traditional life back there, but I tell you, man, urban India, in places like Mumbai ― Bombay ― is going Vadoosh!
