Getting your driving license is an important achievement; it can help you for getting a job. But preparing for your driving test can seem difficult because of the pattern of the theory and practice theory test.

If you are a learner driver and it is very important that you should take guidance from professional driving instructor.
You can always discuss your strength, weakness areas in driving with your friend and family members. But ideally should not be totally dependent upon their help, as many professional drivers have bad driving habits, you are likely to pick up those.

An expert driving instructor should be able to teach you how to become safe & responsible driver on the road because he/she should know the safe driving rules.

Many drivers do not pass their DSA driving test theory in first attempt, so if unfortunately you fail in your test, don't be nervous.
It is not the end of the world and just takes another chance with better preparation and pass your test.

Theory test practice with multiple choice questions and hazard perception test is the first part of the test. Solve all the Driving theory test questions at least once. Note the questions/sections where you are failing e.g many learner feel stopping distances questions/answers are difficult to remember. Effective study is more important, many people fail through lack of preparation. Most important is understand the theory behind each question.

In general, 80% questions fall in easy category. Rest 20% you will have to re-attempt till you feel confident. Then take few random mock theory test so you know how you are scoring. Then when you are ready, sit for your free online theory test.

For the preparation of driving practical test, rely on approved driving instructor. It is extremely important to ensure that you choose your driving instructor that has a lot of experience, driving skills and better training records and practice thoroughly with him.

Some tips for learner drivers -

Drive to suit the conditions of the road In some road conditions, even driving at the speed limit could be too fast. Factors that affect road conditions include fog, rain and traffic flow. The national speed limit is not a target speed. Focus on your driving and don't worry about shifting controls.

Driving too close to the car in front, undertaking and failing to signal are widely accepted as examples of bad driving. However, some drivers fail to accept that driving too fast is also poor driving despite the fact that this is a contributory factor in hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries every year.

Consider the consequences of causing an accident due to driving at excessive speed
If you cause an accident you will have to live with the emotional consequences of deaths or injuries caused to others.

Don't assume it's safe to break the speed limit on rural roads because there is less traffic or an open road ahead
Be aware that there may be unexpected hazards, such as blind bends, vehicles coming out of junctions and animals on the road.

We wish you all the best for your DSA test.

The following tips will help keep you and other road users safe:

Choose the right gear:

To protect yourself, wear the right clothes - protective jackets, trousers, gloves and boots and most importantly, a safety helmet that fits.

Expect the unexpected:

Drivers often fail to notice motorcyclists. So it's best to always ride with the expectation that you would not be seen, and to be alert and observant and keep an eye out for other vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists.

Make yourself visible Wear a light or brightly colored helmet and fluorescent clothing or strips when riding in daylight and reflective clothing or strips when riding in the dark.

Get your positioning right:

Position yourself in the most visible place, usually the middle of the lane. Take up your road position in good time before turning right or left, showing others what you aim to do. Remember that dipped headlights can also help increase your visibility.

Take care when overtaking:

Can you see hazards? Is there a bend or junction? Can you overtake without speeding up or swerving too much? Before you overtake, take a lifesaver glance over your shoulder and check what others around you are doing.

Do not buy second-hand kit:

You do not know where it's from or what's been done to it; chances are it won't protect you properly if you have a crash.

Protecting your head:

You can now easily assess how much protection a motorcycle helmet can offer in an impact. The Safety Helmet Assessment and Rating Program (SHARP) rates helmets from 1 to 5 stars. The more SHARP stars a helmet has, the better protection it can give. Check the SHARP website for a list of all helmets rated.

Dress for the weather:

Be prepared for the weather to change. Take waterproofs and visor wipes for that sudden downpour - an uncomfortable ride can distract you from hazards.

Keep your bike clean:

Regular cleaning and maintenance keeps your bike running well, and also means you're up close to it more often, so you'll spot potential problems early on.

Take care in groups:

Take extra care when riding as a group - crashes often occur when riders try and keep up with a lead rider. If you're ahead, try and keep the rider behind in your mirrors so you don't have to keep stopping to re-group.

The aim behind DSA Motorbike test is to reduce this number of victims.

About DSA driving practical test maneuvers / manoeuvres

Choosing a driving instructor for your practical lessons -

One-in-eight driving instructors 'not qualified'

According to recent telegraph news - one in eight driving instructors are not fully qualified, claimed the AA, which demanded the Government force driving schools to be more transparent.

The motoring group said the Government should intervene to insist learner drivers are told more clearly whether their instructor had yet to fully qualify or not. At present, the only legal requirement is for the trainee instructor to display an official pink badge in the windscreen. < br />

The AA said that while trainee instructors have passed exams demonstrating advanced practical and theory driving knowledge, they have yet to sit a third exam testing their ability to instruct

You need to be careful while choosing the driving instructor.

Driving instructor role is very important while you are preparing for your driving lessons.

Approved driving instructor (ADI) can give you proper guidance on your DSA practical test.

He / She will also teach you driving maneuvers / manoeuvres.

About DSA Driving practical maneuvers test-

In your DSA practical test, you will then be examined on your general driving and on two reversing exercises. The reversing exercises will be chosen from:

- Reversing around a corner

- Turning in the road

- Reverse parking

You may also be asked to carry out an emergency stop exercise.

What is expected in each driving practical test maneuvers / manoeuvres -

Reverse parking -

Drive alongside a parked car and reverse back within the space of two car lengths without hitting the kerb and whilst observing for other road users.

Turn in the road -

Turn the car around using forward and reverse gears without hitting the kerb and whilst observing for other road users.

Reverse to the left -

Reverse in to a side road to your left, keep close to the kerb and observe for other road users.

Bay parking -

Reverse in to a car park bay, whilst observing for other road users.

Emergency stop -

Stop the car as in an emergency, without skidding.

Throughout the test you should drive in the way your instructor has taught you. If you make a mistake, don't worry about it, it might be a less serious driving fault and may not affect your result. The examiner will be looking for an overall safe standard of driving.

You can make up to 15 driving faults and still pass the test (16 or more results in failure). However, if you commit one serious or dangerous fault you will fail the test. If at any time your examiner considers you to be a danger to other road users your test will be stopped.
